Don’t ever be fooled into thinking that when you deadlift you should solely be feeling the movement targeting your lower back because that could NOT be any further from the truth. If you are only feeling the movement there then STOP! Regardless, even if your being advised by a so called ‘professional’ to do so; do NOT continue. Your playing Russian Roulette with your spine - that’s coming from someone who’s slipped their L4 disc in the past. .

Deadlifting properly should evenly distribute the load throughout the whole of your posterior chain (the whole of the BACK of your body).

When teaching clients how to deadlift your looking at two major aspects: full hip extension (bringing your hips forward to the point where you stand in neutral alignment) AND maintaining thoracic extension throughout the full range (retraction of your scapula / pinning your shoulders back). .
.
I prefer to have clients start in the standing position of the deadlift in order to ensure both of the above aspects are felt. IMO starting from the floor for the majority is a definitely no go - most of us do not have the flexibility and mobility to get tight in that bottom position. Therefore initiating the whole movement through areas of the body that should NOT be under excessive stress and as a result the likelihood for injury is far greater!

To add; I very much like to have clients perform this variation of deadlift over any other (stiff legged - with the knee only slightly bent), this just ensures that the load is distributed posteriorly. This isn’t a SQUAT, so why bend your knees more and involve your quads?!
