Yesterday was the official trimester opening at #ErasmusUniversity and guess what?! The Book Fairies left one of the most famous works by Erasmus of #Rotterdam, "Praise of Folly", on campus And Yes, that is in fact Desiderius Erasmus holding his own book
#bookfairiesnetherlands #ibelieveinbookfairies #penguinclassics
About the book:
Erasmus of Rotterdam (c. 1466-1536) is one of the greatest figures of the Renaissance humanist movement, which abandoned medieval pieties in favour of a rich new vision of the individual's potential. Praise of Folly, written to amuse his friend Sir Thomas More, is Erasmus's best-known work. Its dazzling mixture of fantasy and satire is narrated by a personification of Folly, dressed as a jester, who celebrates youth, pleasure, drunkenness and sexual desire, and goes on to lambast human pretensions, foibles and frailties, to mock theologians and monks and to praise the 'folly' of simple Christian piety. Erasmus's wit, wordplay and wisdom made the book an instant success, but it also attracted what may have been sales-boosting criticism. The Letter to Maarten van Dorp, which is a defence of his ideas and methods, is also included. (Source: @penguinclassics) #booklove #bookclub #lovebooks

WELCOME BACK Yesterday was the official trimester opening at #erasmusuniversityand guess what We left one of the most famous works by Erasmus of #Rotterdam, "Praise of Folly", on campus And Yes, that is in fact Desiderius Erasmus holding his own book #bookfairiesnetherlands #ibelieveinbookfairies #penguinclassics About the book: Erasmus of Rotterdam (c. Where else would you leave #janeausten for #BookFairyClassics if not at at the statue of a reading girl given to the city of #rotterdam by the association of booksellers? •
 About the book:
'She has many rare and charming qualities, but Sobriety is not one of them.'
A selection of Austen's dark and hilarious early writings - featuring murder, drunkenness, perjury, theft, poisoning, women breaking out of prison, men forging wills and babies biting off their mothers' fingers... Check bookfairies_nl's Instagram Aaaaand another one for #BookFairyClassics Stancliffe's Hotel by Charlotte Brontë was left at what looks like a fancy British hotel but is in fact the Stadhuis #Rotterdam. •
 About the book:
'Reader, if you're ready, so am I.'
These witty vignettes, set in Charlotte Brontë's imaginary world of Angria, feature debauched aristocrats, high-society courtesans and the rakish, brooding hero Zamorna, and offer a fascinating insight into Brontë's early writing. (Source: @penguinclassics)
