Check houseofgordon's Instagram Look closely on a bottle of Gordon's Gin and you'll see this - the boar's head. This charge appears on almost every Gordon family "coat of arms" and its appearance here is no coincidence - Alexander Gordon, who invented the drink was proud of his illustrious heritage and not afraid to shout about it! Family tradition relates that he was descended from the branch of the clan that dwell even to this day at Abergeldie Castle, neighbour to Balmoral in Aberdeenshire. 1619169181911449160_3998581092

Check brightonkath's Instagram All 9 of the heraldic themed tile panels above the main entrance to Central Parade, Walthamstow.

This is Central Parade, Walthamstow, with a clocktower, row of shops with a very midcentury wavy roof over, and flats above. The various parts of the building were built by borough architect F.G. Southgate, between 1958 and 1964, which perhaps explains why there is no cohesive style, apart from the obvious Festival of Britain influences.
The clock tower looks like concrete, but is actually a grey stone, clad in grey and red geometric patterned tiles. On the corner of the block are mosaic tiled panels with various heraldic motifs, although I've not been able to find out any further details about what, if anything, they represent.

According to the most prevalent theory, the name Rus', like the Finnish name for Sweden (Ruotsi), is derived from an Old Norse term for "the men who row" (rods-) as rowing was the main method of navigating the rivers of Eastern Europe.
