A bicycle-themed #brewery in a renovated #Islandview neighborhood church? That's what Detroit residents Belinda and Craig Gilmore had in mind. 🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 The church at 1812 Field St. has been empty for years, Belinda said. It was previously home to the New Bride Baptist Church and originally built in 1900.

The co-owners — husband and wife — are home-brewing porters, a wheat mosaic #beer and a variety of others in anticipation of a tentative spring 2018 opening for Bent Rim Brew House.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 Food plans include #pizza, pretzels and #Chinese hotpot (Craig visited #China and fell in love with the fondue-style dish). In addition to lagers, IPAs, porters and stouts, they will serve less common brews like barley wines.

They have started tear-down and some #construction work, but the full-scale renovation won't start for a few months yet, Belinda said. Licensing and city approvals are still on the horizon, too.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 "We have to, in order to get the brewery license, we have to prove we can completely fund the renovation and get going," said Craig, a senior software engineer for A123 Systems LLC. "In order to do that we gotta get a loan ... right now we're going through banks and stuff to try to get loans."
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 They'll also apply for Motor City Match and other grant programs, he said. They've invested about $450,000 so far and will likely spend another $350,000 more.

The City of Detroit will use $23.6 million from the sale of city-owned land and streets in the pathway of the new Gordie Howe International #Bridge to relocate up to 240 homeowners in the Delray #neighborhood.

Mayor #MikeDuggan announced the plan Friday morning as part of a $48 million deal with the state that includes the sale and lease of city property to the Michigan Department of Transportation needed to build the new Detroit River bridge.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 Duggan said Delray residents who live outside of the footprint of the new bridge's plaza will have the option to "swap" their home for a vacant house elsewhere in Detroit with up to $60,000 in renovations. The city also will pay for moving expenses, Duggan said.

The city will set up a real estate office in Delray to showcase vacant city-owned houses, similar to the Detroit Land Bank Authority's Rehabbed & Ready program, Duggan said.

Walsh Construction Co. has submitted a proposal to finish construction of the #WayneCounty jail in downtown Detroit.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 The Chicago-based #contractor met its Wednesday deadline, after the county gave it two extensions to create plans for building a 1,600-bed jail and a 2,280-bed jail on the 1.5 acre site, said Jim Martinez, spokesman for Wayne County Executive Warren Evans.

More details on the Walsh proposals will be released today.

Walsh Construction originally faced a May 3 deadline to complete a request for proposals, but Evans' administration extended it to May 17 and then to June 28 after Rock Ventures LLC submitted an alternative proposal to build a jail complex on county-owned land on East Forest Avenue.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 The alternative plan is needed to compare Walsh Construction's proposal at Gratiot Avenue with Rock Ventures' 1,600-bed jail plan proposal for county-owned land on East Forest Avenue.

#DETROIT - The #WayneCounty Department of #Health, #Veterans and #Community #Wellness (HVCW) is teaming up with national organizers to host the #MotorCity #Medical Mission, a free #dental, optical and medical care clinic at Cobo Center in Detroit from Wednesday through Friday.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 "People can receive care, at no cost, on a first-come, first-serve basis," said Ann Burnett, executive director of the Motor City Medical Mission Project.

The three-day event is open to anyone in need including those who are #homeless, uninsured, or underinsured. 🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 No pre-registration is required. Medical professionals do not have to commit to all three days and can register to volunteer by clicking here. "Our goal is to sign up as many volunteer dentists, optometrists, and medical doctors as possible so we can provide free services to those who may not have access to care," Burnett said. "The event can be as large as the number of volunteers we get." #Dental services may include exams, cleanings, fillings and extractions. Free eye glasses, screenings, and refractions are available for those requiring optical care. Medical care may include health exams, school physicals, consultations, chronic disease prevention, hypertension and diabetes counseling, and non-narcotic medications and prescriptions. Other essential services such as #ultrasound, massage therapy, physical therapy and legal consultations will be available.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 "We’re proud to help the Motor City Medical Mission team reach out to people in need of care," said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. "We know a lot of southeast #Michigan residents have unmet medical needs. So, we’re asking dentists, optometrists and medical doctors to consider volunteering at least one day, knowing that Wayne County will also be there to extend care long after the event has come and gone."

A pair of early 20th century #apartment buildings in Detroit's Midtown have been put up for sale for $6.35 million.

The 45-unit Wayne Court Apartments at 3525 Cass Ave. at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and a 40-unit building at 624 Charlotte St. at Second Avenue hit the market about two weeks ago, said listing broker Todd Szymczak, vice president of #investment sales for Southfield-based Farbman Group.

#Detroit businesses are being given an incentive to improve their storefronts.

Mayor #MikeDuggan and the Detroit Economic Growth Corp. on Wednesday launched #MotorCity Re-Store, a companion program to the popular startup-focused Motor City Match. The Re-Store program will provide $500,000 in matching grants each quarter to existing businesses with the goal to help stabilize and create more walkable, attractive and viable #neighborhood business districts, the city said in a news release.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 Funded in part by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's #Community Development Block Grant Program and other unnamed sources, the program will offer $2 million in grants annually. "The small neighborhood businesses that have hung in there over the years and have sustained our city are part of Detroit's revitalization. That's why we created Motor City Re-Store," Duggan said in the release. "This is how we are going to bring our city back, by supporting our existing businesses and residents as we welcome new ones to our neighborhoods." -------------------------------------------------

Two #developers with significant #investments in #WestVillage plan to thread a trio of #duplexes together into one six-unit, mixed-use development near the intersection of Kercheval Avenue and Parker Street.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 A large, raised outdoor deck and connectors between houses will create one building out of the three, said Reimer Priester, who co-owns the duplexes with Alex DeCamp. #Demolition and clear-out has started, with build-out expected to finish by the end of the summer and another three months allotted for the three retail tenants to customize their spaces.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 Priester and DeCamp were also developers on the Garland Building, a $1.35 million mixed-use project that opened in December near the same intersection. "Alex and I have found ourselves highly focused in the Villages (neighborhoods)," Priester said.
🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑🛑 These three duplexes, which Priester calls the Kercheval 3 (they were purchased under the name Kercheval 3 LLC about a year ago), sit on the south side of Kercheval Avenue, east of its intersection with Parker Street. The westernmost property, 1,500-square-foot 8116 Kercheval Ave., is east of La Boheme French Cafe and Hawkins Realty Group. -------------------------------------------------
