Which means they evolve better with explosive movements with the tendency of using heavy weights. So yes, for performance, you have to do less rep and more sets.

Here's a common error I see. For example, you should do your leg curls as you do your deadlifts. 
Don't rush it! 
You should have a pause in between each rep. The goal is to remove the tension of the muscle from the movement. 
In other words, you want to start your next rep with no contraction. You will have a better blast to remove the inertia and won't exhaust your muscle for nothing.

Here, remember that I'm talking for performance gains. I'm not a specialist in structural gains as a bodybuilder seeks. So, when working the lower posterior chain, do not rush it. 
Take the time to remove your contraction before your next rep. Be explosive and control the eccentric part of the movement !
