In being my own #girlboss I've had the privilege of meeting colleagues and clients, many whom I'm now lucky enough to call "friends", these individuals tend to have the same aspirations and goals about kindness, health, wellness, and healing that I do. Wednesday was just that type of day for me. I had the opportunity to watch, learn, and grow in how @taylormadeintegrativetherapy diagnosis and treats his chiropractic patients. I referred a client to him; in turn, he extended an invitation and I showed up to the party! It was pretty dope! I love that we have the opportunity to believe in ourselves and others. I'm thankful we can share knowledge, grow, support, provide kindness, and help others as a "team". Here Joe shows us how we can use it properly to assist in mobilizing the thoracic spine.  Its important that when we are working with the spine we are in control and understand what we are trying to accomplish so we are not damaging tissue and nerves while attempting the movements.⠀

Thoracic Mobilizations with a Peanut!⠀

If you didn't see my Tutorial on making a "Peanut." Make sure to check that out before doing this mobilization🙂⠀

Make sure to put the "Peanut," so there's a ball on each side of the Spine. I did a pretty bad job on my first attempt😰⠀

Here's how to perform the mobilization with the "Peanut"!⠀
-⠀
☝️️Before anyone asks in the comments, you can use two lacrosse balls taped together. This will obviously be more intense.⠀
1️⃣ Place the "Peanut" on your Upper to Mid-Back (thoracic spine)⠀
2️⃣ Make sure you are not on the spine, and there's a ball on each side of the spine.⠀
3️⃣ Start on one spot and roll an inch up and down.  Do not roll all the way up and down the back.  Stay on a "segment" of the back⠀
👉You can also rock side to side⠀
👉You can also bring your arms overhead just make sure to keep the abdominals engaged.⠀
🔁 Repeat until it feels better and move down the t-spine⠀

3 Part Mini Series On Muscles & Movement: Part III
Pain Patterns: X shapes, weak and tight, front and back. .
Classic shoulders rolling in/protraction of the scapula. 
We are from living our lives at our computers, 
looking down, driving, working with our hands. 
As much as one may try to conscious roll back 
the shoulders, it's like they have a mind of their own 
and make their way back into the position of rolling in/protraction. .
This cause the front of the chest and thorax to shorten 
ex:
Pectorals Minor (not major) 
and Serratus Anterior (the muscle that looks like 
little fingers wrapping around the ribs under the breast)
.
And the rhomboids (muscles in between the shoulders blades)
And the lower trap to lengthen or over stretch. .
An affective way to bring balance back to the body 
is strengthen the Lats (large back muscles that extend under shoulder 
making the outer line the arm pit) 
And the triceps. 
This will help the head of the humerus (arm bone) 
To pull back. .
Sometimes doing push-ups and biceps curls with out focusing on 
Strengthening the back of the body will exacerbate this structural dysfunction. .
So if you notices your shoulders rolled in try exercise to build your 
Lats and triceps. Lay low on the push-ups and curls and see if your shoulders 
open up a bit. .
It hard to stay symmetrical in our bodies. First recognizing what 
muscles are short can help lead the way back to symmetry. .

The Pigeon Posture:

The Psoas, ILiacus and Quadriceps:
According to “Anatomy Of Hatha Yoga”
Preliminary version of pigeon, everyone can do. 
Just watch your knees as you may need to roll 
the mat for extra cushion. 
Advanced version is shown in painting. 
Both open the hips on both right and left sides at the sacroiliac joint. 
Thus “producing extension of the hip joint” [which is actually in the front of the body 
just to the side of the pubic area]
for the thigh directed to the rear ([he one extended straight out]
and flexion of the thigh facing the front.” 🔹
As you can see this lengthens illospoas or hip flexor 
and quad of the extended leg. And opens the insertion of the psoas 
On the femur (leg bone) of the front facing or flexed leg. 
This also stretches the piriformis muscle that lyes deep under the glutes. 🔹
Pigeon is also a backbending pose which can open 
the diaphragm and erector spinae (upside down poplar tree shaped muscle) 
That keeps the spine erect and flexible. 🔹

Check marlotell's Instagram Gentle Cupping / #MarloMethod bodywork session with a client that is a Documentarian.  Very fascinating career path… he video records surgeries!  The dark red area by the scapula is the area most affected by holding the camera in fixed positions for many hours.  He mentioned that he may do a 4 hour shoot for a 3 second piece of film.  So interesting!

In the "Before" pic, gentle cups are applied to the tight areas for passive bodywork encouraging blood flow and loosening the muscles while the left side receives #MarloMethod deep tissue bodywork.  Then the right side is treated the same way.  In the “After” pic, both sides have been treated and both shoulders are released and even #massagetherapy 1585265402967398582_27535631
