News have had some wonderful experiences at our Conservation Project in Sri Lanka! There's been a lot going lately, from planting of citrus trees for the local community to deter elephants from their crops, analyzing dung to learn where the elephants have been, searching for wildcat by looking for poo (scat) and paw prints and making plaster casts of the prints, and now starting to address concerns over increasing leopard human conflict in the country. https://madmimi.com/s/87017b You can follow this link to book with our friendly and experienced team: https://www.worldwideexperience.com/sri-lanka-elephant-research-and-mammal-study/

One of the most difficult things we have seen here during our time volunteering with @bumihillsfoundation . During a foot patrol, vultures alerted our scouts to this carcass- a young elephant bull shot dead by poachers, who escaped with the ivory. The discovery marks a devastating end of two years without losing an elephant to poachers in this Bumi Hills area. A very sad day for the BHAPU team and Zimbabwe wildlife and a stark reminder that the threat facing these animals never goes away.

So pleased to share some great conservation news. If anyone has watched the documentary @racingextinction you will remember the serious fishing problem in , where copious amounts of manta were being gutted for their wings & gills to supply the bogus trade of alternative and traditional Medicine. In @racingextinction the team approach the villagers with total respect for their livelihood and traditions;yet they still manage to completely turn things around for the better. The exploitation and butchery of manta has dropped by 97% in the last 2 years. "400years of mega fauna hunting" reversed through education and more important alternate opportunities for local people. 48 hunters dropped their weapons to join the , 5 local business switched to alternative schemes and across villages, dozens of people joined the marine ranger and steward teams. πŸ’™ how inspiring it is to hear about such a turn around in such a notoriously savage tradition. Surely this could inspire real hope for a turn around in places such as (Whale slaughter) and (the Cove). I've said it before and I'll say it again, just pick a species and do something!! 🌊 #Conservationnews (Photo from work at the Seal Sanctuary) PS a huge thankyou to the racing extinction team for this enormous contribution to wildlife protection. πŸ’™

Just off the Caribbean island of Roatan lies a massive pile of floating garbage. It spans kilometres of ocean and consists of everyday plastic items such as zip lock bags, crisp packets and bottles. The emergence of this happened due to recent hurricane that struck the region. Dr Britta Denise Hardesty, the principal researcher for oceans and atmosphere at the CSIRO said β€œit is a shocking and it’s very confronting... β€œI wish I could say that I’d never seen anything like it before.” . . . . news

Good News! Reposting @climategram's Conservation Success Stories. Swipe to view! πŸ‘€ "Humans have been a driving force of the current mass extinction due to overpopulation, habitat destruction, ocean acidification, pollution, and climate change. Under normal circumstances, the number of species that have vanished in the last century should have taken 800 to 10,000 years to disappear. That doesn't mean that all hope is lost. Here are a few of the great conservation comeback stories of our generation. It's not too late to get involved with conservation efforts by following, joining, or donating to nonprofits that help rescue our endangered and vulnerable species."
